Unlike traditional rigid nuts, floating nut inserts solve the unavoidable hole misalignment problem during assembly through a "floating structure design." This product typically consists of three core units:
Threaded Carrier (Nut Core): Provides the primary mechanical locking function.
Floating Structure Component (Floating Cage/Spring Frame): Offers multi-directional displacement compensation capabilities.
External Fixing Carrier (Insert Housing): Ensures a stable connection with the base material.
This structure allows the nut to float radially or axially within a certain range, significantly reducing assembly stress concentration and improving the overall assembly fault tolerance.
Material Advantages: Deep Application of High-Performance Alloys
Nut Core
Made of 12.10 grade high-hardness alloy steel or A2/A4 stainless steel. Heat-treated to ensure the threads maintain 6H precision even after multiple assembly and disassembly, without stripping or sticking for the Clip-On Floating Nut.
Cage Housing
Constructed of 301/304 stainless steel with excellent elasticity or hardened phosphor bronze. These materials provide physical restraint while offering excellent corrosion resistance, maintaining floating flexibility even in salt spray environments.
Surface Treatment
Environmentally friendly zinc-nickel alloy plating, Dacromet, or passivation treatments are available, ensuring over 720 hours of rust-free performance.
Main Functions: Removable Threaded Anchoring for Thin-Sheet Structures
Thread Load Bearing
The functional nut provides standard internal threads (M3-M12 series) to bear the axial tightening force of the Float-Nut Cage Unit. The thread engagement length is ≥1.0 times the bolt diameter, ensuring sufficient tensile and shear strength.
Floating Compensation
Radial and axial floating capabilities compensate for hole position deviations, sheet thickness variations, and interlayer gaps, reducing assembly accuracy requirements and improving connection success rates.
Sheet Surface Protection
The flange edge of the cage disperses the clamping force on the Floating Nut Insert
head, preventing localized crushing or deformation of the thin sheet surface and maintaining appearance integrity.
Maintainability
Supports repeated tightening and non-destructive replacement, adapting to equipment commissioning, maintenance, and upgrade needs.
Design Advantages: Assembly-Friendly Engineering Details
Follow-the-Like Design of the Cage Profile: The square-hole mounting cage uses an asymmetrical wing layout to ensure unique insertion direction, preventing incorrect floating direction caused by 180° reverse installation; the round-hole version features positioning protrusions that engage with the positioning grooves in the plate holes for foolproof installation.
Dual-Sided Usability of Functional Nuts: Some designs use through-hole nuts, allowing bolts to be screwed in from either side of the plate, providing flexibility for dual-sided maintenance scenarios; blind-hole nuts offer a deeper thread engagement length, suitable for high-load connections.
Visual Installation Confirmation: The Spring-Steel Floating Nut claws protrude from the plate surface at a specific height after correct installation, providing both tactile and visual confirmation; abnormal claw height when not fully pressed in can be immediately identified and corrected by the operator, preventing hidden installation defects from flowing into downstream processes.
