Relays are fundamental components in automatic control systems. Their core function is to control large currents with small currents, enabling circuit connection, disconnection, switching, and protection. With the development of industrial automation, new energy equipment, communication systems, and intelligent control technologies, relays are increasingly widely used in industrial control, power equipment, rail transportation, automotive electronics, and home appliances. The internal magnetic circuit system of a relay directly determines its operational stability, response speed, and lifespan, with the iron core being a key component of the entire magnetic circuit structure. Common magnetic components include Relay Iron Core, Relay Coil Core, Electromagnet Core, and Coil Core for Electromagnetic Relay.

The working principle of a relay is primarily based on electromagnetic induction. When the coil is energised, a magnetic field is generated inside the coil. This magnetic field forms a closed magnetic circuit through the Core for the electromagnetic relay, attracting the armature to move and causing the contacts to complete the connection or disconnection. When the coil is de-energised, the magnetic field disappears, the spring returns to its original position, and the contacts return to their initial state. The entire operation requires the iron core material to possess high permeability, low remanence, and stable mechanical properties; therefore, soft magnetic iron cores for relays are widely used in various relay products.

Relay iron core materials typically employ high-purity soft magnetic pure iron, with Electrician Pure Iron Core and DT4C Iron Core being common soft magnetic materials in industrial applications. These materials feature high permeability, low coercivity, and low hysteresis loss, effectively reducing energy consumption and improving operational sensitivity. Pure iron relay cores maintain stable magnetic response performance under high-frequency switching environments, thus being widely used in industrial control relays, automotive relays, and communication relays. For high-reliability applications, iron cores for industrial control relays typically also require vibration resistance, high-temperature resistance, and long-term stable operation.

Structurally, relay cores can be categorised into straight rod type, cylindrical type, irregularly shaped structure, and combined structure. Straight coil cores are commonly used inside small relay coils to improve pull-in efficiency by optimising the magnetic flux path. Some products also incorporate structural components such as Relay Pins and Core Pins to achieve rapid assembly and conductive connections. With the trend towards miniaturisation, small-sized, high-precision iron core processing technology has become a crucial direction for the relay industry.

In terms of manufacturing processes, cold heading and cold forging have become important methods for relay core production. Cold Forging Relay Cores and Cold Heading Pure Iron Cores offer advantages such as high material utilisation, good dimensional consistency, and high production efficiency. Cores produced using the DT4C Relay Iron Core Cold Forging process can reduce magnetic performance loss while maintaining mechanical strength, making them suitable for high-precision relays and automated control systems. Compared to traditional machining, cold forming processes reduce internal structural damage and improve product stability.

Surface treatment of relay cores is equally critical. To improve corrosion resistance and conductivity, some products employ surface treatments such as nickel plating and copper plating. For example, the Relay Core nickel plating with copper undercoat process first improves adhesion with a copper underlayer, and then enhances oxidation resistance and wear resistance with a nickel layer. This technology is widely used in humid environments, high-temperature environments, and equipment operating for extended periods, effectively extending product lifespan.

Relay products can be categorised by their operating method into electromagnetic relays, thermal relays, and solid-state relays. Electromagnetic relays remain the most widely used type in industrial applications, with core magnetic components including Relay Core, Coil Soft Iron Core, and Pure Iron Core. Thermal relays primarily utilise temperature changes to control magnetic changes, achieving temperature protection. Solid-state relays, lacking mechanical contacts, offer advantages such as fast response, strong vibration resistance, and long lifespan; however, in certain high-current scenarios, traditional electromagnetic relays still possess irreplaceable cost and reliability advantages.

During relay selection, key parameters such as rated operating voltage, pull-in current, release current, contact capacity, and insulation performance need to be carefully considered. For industrial automation equipment, the stability of the Relay steel core directly affects the consistency and reliability of relay operation. Excessive residual magnetism in the core can lead to release delays or even contact adhesion; therefore, soft magnetic iron cores for relays require high-quality material formulation and heat treatment processes.

As industrial equipment evolves towards intelligence, miniaturisation, and high frequency, relay core technology is also continuously upgrading. Future relay magnetic materials will place greater emphasis on high permeability, low loss, and high reliability. Simultaneously, relay core cold heading technology, high-precision stamping technology, and automated assembly technology will further improve production efficiency and product consistency. Especially in the fields of new energy vehicles, energy storage systems, industrial robots, and smart grids, the demand for high-performance pure iron relay cores is continuously growing.

Currently, the development trend of the relay industry mainly focuses on miniaturisation, high reliability, low power consumption, and intelligence. Higher-performance soft magnetic iron cores for relays will become a key fundamental material for improving relay response speed and stability. With the continuous maturation of new soft magnetic materials, precision moulding processes, and automated manufacturing technologies, relay cores will play an increasingly important role in industrial control, power electronics, communication equipment, and new energy systems.
