Beryllium copper, also known as beryllium bronze, is a copper alloy with beryllium as the main alloying element. It is one of the most superior elastic materials among copper alloys in terms of overall performance. Through solution treatment and aging heat treatment, beryllium copper can achieve extremely high strength, elasticity, hardness, and fatigue strength, while also possessing excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion and wear resistance, non-magnetic properties, and spark-free impact resistance. This unique combination of properties makes beryllium copper widely used in electronics, aerospace, precision instruments, mold manufacturing, and marine engineering.
Beryllium copper (BCu) is a supersaturated solid solution copper-based alloy whose properties are optimally matched after solution treatment and age hardening. Its density is approximately 8.3 g/cm³, its hardness reaches 36-42 HRC, its tensile strength exceeds 1000 MPa, and its elastic limit and yield strength approach those of special steels, while maintaining good toughness and fatigue resistance.
Regarding electrical and thermal conductivity, BCu exhibits an electrical conductivity exceeding 18% IACS and a thermal conductivity of at least 105 W/m Kelvin. This combination of properties makes it irreplaceable in applications requiring high elasticity, high strength, and excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. BeCu electrical contact springs are widely used in relays, switches, and connectors, providing stable contact pressure while ensuring efficient current transmission.
BCu exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance. It exhibits excellent stability in air, fresh water, and seawater. In seawater, the corrosion rate is only 0.011 to 0.014 mm per year, and the corrosion depth is only 0.0109 to 0.0138 mm per year, with no significant decrease in strength or elongation after corrosion. This characteristic makes it an irreplaceable material for submarine cable repeater structures, maintaining a service life of over 40 years. In sulfuric acid with a concentration of up to 80% at room temperature, the annual corrosion depth is only 0.0012 to 0.1175 mm, demonstrating outstanding corrosion resistance.

In the electronics and electrical fields, beryllium copper is widely used in the manufacture of various flexible connectors, switch contacts, relay springs, potentiometer brushes, etc. Cu beryllium spring contacts, with their high conductivity and excellent elasticity, ensure the reliability of signal transmission and current switching. BeCu stamping is widely used in mobile phones, batteries, connectors, and other products, making it an indispensable industrial material for national economic development.
In the mold manufacturing field, high-performance beryllium copper is mainly used for inserts, cores, and die-casting punches in low-pressure casting and gravity casting molds for non-ferrous metals. Beryllium copper mold materials possess high thermal conductivity, high strength, wear resistance, and resistance to molten metal corrosion, solving the problems of cracking and wear inherent in traditional mold steels. Beryllium copper alloy mold materials achieve a hardness of HRC43, significantly improving mold life, demolding speed, and casting strength, improving casting surface quality, and bringing mold life close to imported levels.
In marine engineering, beryllium copper is used to manufacture submarine cable repeater structures, deep-sea submersible components, etc. Its excellent resistance to seawater corrosion ensures long-term service reliability. In the field of explosion-proof tools, beryllium copper does not produce sparks upon impact, making it an ideal material for tools and parts in flammable and explosive environments such as petroleum, chemical, and mining.

Beryllium copper, with its comprehensive properties including high strength, high elasticity, high electrical and thermal conductivity, excellent corrosion and wear resistance, and non-magnetic properties, plays an irreplaceable role in fields such as electronics, precision machinery, mold manufacturing, marine engineering, and explosion-proof tools. From Beryllium Copper Stampings to BeCu Electrical Contact Springs, beryllium copper materials continue to drive technological advancements in high-end equipment and precision components. As the requirements for material performance continue to rise, the research and development and processing technology of beryllium copper alloys will continue to evolve, providing better solutions for various industrial sectors.
