Slotted Step Break-Stem Rivet

Slotted Step Break-Stem Rivet

Slotted Step Break-Stem Rivets, also known as one-piece stepped rivets, are precision fasteners that combine rapid installation, stable locking, and structural guidance. These products achieve stable connections between materials of varying thicknesses through their stepped rivet structure and broken rivet design. They are widely used in new energy vehicles, electrical cabinets, rail transportation, industrial equipment, sheet metal structural parts, electronic housings, and automated assembly. Compared to traditional solid rivets, ordinary blind rivets are more suitable for industrial scenarios with higher requirements for assembly efficiency, consistency, and structural stability.

Products Description

Slotted Step Break-Stem Rivet

In the complex assembly systems of modern equipment manufacturing, when traditional nuts and bolts cannot be used due to the enclosed space behind them, and when ordinary blind rivets frequently fail with soft substrates or ultra-large hole diameters, the reliability of the connection system has reached its limit. The Slotted Step Break-Stem Rivet is a structural-level fastening solution designed to overcome this limitation.

It is not a simple connecting pin, but a sophisticated blind-end mechanical anchoring system. Through the dual topological synergy of slotted expansion and stepped forming, it constructs a rigid node with high tensile and shear strength within the blind hole without altering the workpiece's appearance. This page will avoid superficial parameter listings and delve into the deep physical logic of fracture mechanics, expansion sequence, and hole wall interlocking to provide global professional engineering clients and purchasers with an in-depth analysis of the engineering core of this rivet.

Production Process

Collar Strip Blanking and Forming Low-carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum alloy strip is selected and blanked, punched, head upset, and sleeve stretched using a progressive die. The collar inner hole is precision blanked or reamed to ensure the fit clearance with the mandrel is within the allowable range of riveting mechanics. The head slot is punched synchronously in the last station, maintaining high coaxiality with the collar axis.
Mandrel Drawing and Step Forming After spheroidizing annealing, the wire is drawn to the reference diameter through multiple passes. It then enters a dedicated diameter reduction station, where a rotary die or punch is used to form steps at specific locations. The step transition area is polished and inspected for microcracks. For high-strength requirements, the mandrel undergoes tempering: quenching followed by medium-temperature tempering to obtain tempered troostite structure, balancing strength and fracture controllability.
Surface Treatment and Pairing The collar and mandrel undergo separate surface treatments: aluminum alloy collars are anodized or passivated; carbon steel collars are galvanized, nickel-plated, or mechanically galvanized; stainless steel parts are passivated. The surface roughness of the mandrel is controlled to optimize friction with the collar's inner hole. Automated pairing and pressing are then performed, with the mandrel inserted into the collar to a preset depth to form a Slotted Step Rivet.
Fracture Consistency Calibration Representative samples from each batch are taken and subjected to fracture force testing and residual height measurement on a standard riveting test bench. Fracture load-displacement curves are recorded to confirm that the curve exhibits a clear brittle fracture inflection point in the stepped diameter reduction region, and that the residual height conforms to the design window. Data is entered into the batch traceability system to ensure that the fracture behavior of the Flat Head Step Rivets leaving the factory is predictable and reproducible.

Application Advantages: Empowering High-End Manufacturing

Rack and Chassis Manufacturing

Slotted Flat Head Step Rivet solves the problem of uneven connections between internal panels and frames caused by design steps.

Automotive Electronic Components

In high-frequency vibration environments, the stepped structure effectively absorbs impact loads and prevents contact loosening.

Rail Transit

Step Flat Head Rivet Used for concealed fastening of internal decorative panels; the stepped design compensates for tolerance fluctuations in panel thickness.

Photovoltaic Mounting Systems

Addresses thermal expansion and contraction caused by extreme outdoor temperature differences; the stepped design provides stress relief space.

Industrial Slotted Step Break-Stem Rivet Application Scenarios

Detailed Showcase: Manufacturing Awe at the Microscopic Scale

Geometric Purity of the Fracture Groove

Under a 50x magnifying glass, the bottom of the fracture groove exhibits a perfectly rounded transition, free of microscopic shoulders and machining marks. This geometric purity ensures that the stress concentration direction at the moment of fracture is absolutely perpendicular, resulting in a smooth, burr-free fracture surface that will not scratch the operator or interfere with assembly.

Rounded Edge Treatment of the Groove

The end of the groove is not a sharp right-angle cut, but rather undergoes micro-beveling and deburring. This not only prevents cracking at the root of the groove during riveting and folding, but also ensures that the Slotted Head Step Break-Stem Blind Rivet can be smoothly inserted into the workpiece hole without scratching the hole wall.

Streamlined Wall Thickness with Stepped Transition

A longitudinal section of the Flat Head Step Structural Rivet body reveals a smooth and natural change in wall thickness in the stepped transition zone, without any local abrupt thinning points. This streamlined design allows tensile stress to be evenly distributed within the rivet body, preventing premature necking or fracture at weak points during expansion.
