Material Composition and Characteristics

Silver Alloy Electrical Contacts are typically composed of two metals: silver (Ag) and nickel (Ni). Silver, as the primary conductive matrix, possesses excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as good ductility and oxidation resistance. Nickel serves as a reinforcing phase or transition layer, enhancing the contacts' mechanical strength, arc erosion resistance, and resistance to welding. Common silver-nickel alloy ratios include AgNi10 (10% nickel), AgNi15 (15% nickel), and AgNi20 (20% nickel). Different ratios directly affect the material's hardness, resistivity, and service life. For example, AgNi90:10 has a density of 10.2g/cc and a conductivity of 50m/Ω・mm², while AgNi80:20 has a density of 10.0g/cc and a conductivity of 46m/Ω・mm².

 

Generally speaking, Silver Nickel Contacts feature low and stable contact resistance, minimal burnout, and uniform electrical wear. However, silver-nickel alloy electrical contacts often have oxides that increase contact resistance during switching, are sensitive to sulfur, and exhibit poor resistance to welding under high currents. Therefore, they are often paired with silver-graphite (AgC) contacts to compensate for these shortcomings.

Manufacturing Process

Silver Cadmium Oxide Contacts and components are typically produced using powder metallurgy or composite rolling techniques. Powder metallurgy involves proportionally mixing silver and nickel powders, pressing and forming them, and then sintering them at high temperatures. This allows for uniform control of the composition distribution. Trace additives, such as rare earth elements or oxides, can be added as needed to further improve electrical wear resistance. Composite rolling is often used to create layered contacts, such as a silver layer coated on a nickel substrate, to achieve a balance between conductivity and strength. Subsequent processing includes stamping, surface treatment (such as tinning or gold plating), and precision welding to ensure reliable connections and long-term performance in actual assembly.

Application Areas

Agcdo Contacts are widely used in various electrical devices, such as relays, switches, contactors (100A), safety devices, and pushbutton switches. Silver-nickel contacts with higher nickel content (such as AgNi70:30 and AgNi60:40) are often used in power switches due to their high arc erosion resistance. In the automotive sector, silver-nickel contacts can be used in vehicle starter relays and high-voltage DC relays for electric vehicles. In industrial control, they can be used in various control switches and contactors. They are also used in the control circuits of household appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines.
